Good Starting Point For Grey County Budget Talks

Grey County Council got its first look at budget numbers for the coming year and they look good.

County staff's preliminary figures show an tax increase to ratepayers of less than 1%.

Warden Al Barfoot says a 0.83% increase is an excellent starting point for coming deliberations.

"Normally you see a really high figure to start with and everybody cringes at that but we are surprised and appreciative. Staff have worked really hard to get to this figure to bring forward," said Barfoot.

Grey County's total operating budget for the coming year is $55.2-million, an increase of $450,000.

County council will more closely examine the numbers at its meeting December 7.
