Steve Kerr Memorial Complex Grand Opening Quickly Approaching

The brand new Steve Kerr Memorial Complex in Listowel is getting closer to it's grand opening weekend.

Sue Thompson, special events chair, says being so close to the reveal on Saturday, December 9 is exciting.

"It's been a long road but we're finally here," she says. "We're trying to make it a community event for everyone, not just specific groups. So it starts Saturday from 3pm-5pm with mini tours of the complex. At 5pm we're holding the official ribbon cutting ceremony and speeches."

A time capsule will also be placed during the ceremony. The Listowel Cyclones take on Stratford at 7:30pm with free admission and collections for the food bank. There will be local food vendors and Tim Horton's on site, and a dance social after the game until midnight. Thompson says on opening day some special guests will be in attendance.

"We're very excited to have the Kerr family as part of the opening of the complex as well. It will be great to have Steve's family there as well," says Thompson.

Following Saturday's opening ceremony and Cyclones game, Sunday will be a family day at the complex, with Skate Canada 150, and families are encouraged to come and wear their favourite jerseys as part of a ribbon cutting for all the local groups that will use the rink. Thompson also notes that upcoming events include the Letterkenny cast announcing tour dates at the new arena in 2018.

"There will be a special announcement about that in connection with the Steve Kerr Complex campaign as well, so stay tuned for that," says Thompson. "We will also be having free skating on the Sunday from 12pm-4pm."
