Bruce Power has new supplier partnership contracts with two more companies.
Agreements have been signed with Motion Electric Motor Services, valued at more than $17-million, to support life extension upgrades in both Bruce A and Bruce B.
Mississauga-based Motion Electric will perform upgrades on Bruce Power’s standby electric generators as well as various electric motors. The standby generators power equipment for cooling the reactors in the event of a major power outage.
"Through this partnership, Motion Electric Motor Services plans to invest nearly $1.4-million over the next 18 months to hire skilled labor and modernize its workshops," says Patrick Lambert, business manager at Motion Electric Motor Services
Kinectrics has been awarded a contract valued at over $2.7-million to work on the Bruce A fuel channels in an upcoming planned maintenance and inspection program.
Kinectrics will deliver a program which tests and confirms fuel channel integrity in all 480 fuel channels that make up the reactor while at the same time reducing outage duration.

Kinectrics is a world leader in the design and developing of inspection tooling for CANDU Reactors.

A Bruce Power news release explained that the operation of the Bruce site through 2064 will create and sustain 22,000 direct and indirect jobs annually, while creating $4-billion in annual Ontario economic benefit through the direct and indirect spending on operational equipment, supplies, materials, and labour income.
