ABCA Promotes Students In Conservation

The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority's education programs have been very popular again this year.

Conservation Educator Denise Iszczuk says the participation of students in conservation program this year is on a par with previous years, but this year's numbers don't include students who were involved in the plowing match at Walton.

Some of their events have been been going on for several years like the Huron-Perth Agriculture and Water Festival every April, the Science Fair and Envirothon, also in April.

Newer events include the Turtle Release Day and the Bio-diversity Education and Awareness Day as well as one of most popular events of the year, the annual Owl Prowl, which attracted over 200 people this year, despite competing with Halloween.

Iszczuk adds, "We actually saw owls in two out of the five hikes that we offered and heard them on three of the five that we offered. Unfortunately with our first two hikes we could only hear Canada Geese... they had moved in at the same time we had gone out."
