Durham Dairy Farmer Michael Schmidt Granted Bail

Michael Schmidt will no longer have to spend weekends in jail, at least for now.

The Durham area dairy farmer was granted bail at a hearing in Walkerton Wednesday morning. Schmidt was convicted of obstructing a peace officer related to a standoff at his farm two years ago. Authorities were there gathering evidence related to Schmidt's raw milk operation.

He was sentenced to 60 days in jail to be served on weekends. He'd already spent two weekends in jail.

The bail was granted on a $2,500 bond pending Schmidt's appeal of the conviction.
