Injuries From Ladder Falls In Huron Peak At This Time Of Year

With final fall home preparations and Christmas decorating moving into high gear, the Huron County Health Unit says this is peak time for injuries from falls.

Public Health Promoter Alycia Kelly says men represent over 80% of emergency department visits and hospitalizations for injuries related to falls from ladders. And 50 to 64 year old men are the most likely to fall victim.

Kelly says people should never use a ladder alone, and always have someone holding the bottom.

For every 4 ft of height, the bottom of the ladder should be out 1 ft from the wall. Move the ladder if you have to reach past the point where your belt buckle crosses the ladder. Always face the ladder, wear slip-resistant shoes, and watch out for power lines.
