Owen Sound Retirement Home Employee Charged With Theft

A woman from Hepworth appears in court in Owen Sound Monday to face a number of theft-related charges.

Tammy Briggs, 47, was arrested late last week and held in custody over the weekend. She was an employee of an Owen Sound retirement home.

Briggs is accused of being responsible for multiple thefts of residents’ personal property -- including credit cards -- that were used to make numerous purchases.

When police executed a search warrant at the home of the accused in Hepworth, they seized a quantity of stolen jewelry and other stolen items, as well as prescription narcotics and other medication stolen from residents of the retirement home.

Charges being heard in court today include theft over $5000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, 11 counts of unauthorized use of a credit card, unlawful possession of morphine, and unlawful possession of fentanyl.

Police did not identify the retirement home, but did credit the home's managment with helping identify a suspect.
