Wellington North Studies Gravel Pit Certifications

Wellington North wants to know more about a Standards Council, which is attempting to make gravel pits operate more responsibly.

After hearing a pitch from Cornerstone Standards Council, Wellington North council agreed to see what is involved in having its own gravel pit certified.

CAO Mike Givens said the municipality has heard from pit operators that the standards are too tough and the paperwork too time-consuming.

He said if the municipality goes through the process, it will know exactly what is involved.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
