More Affordable Housing Units Possible For Goderich

The Town of Goderich could potentially be getting 20 to 30 new affordable housing units.

CAO Larry McCabe explains Huron County is responsible for the allocation of eight affordable housing units to the town, and that's a separate process.

But McCabe says the town has other land that could be used for more affordable housing units. There was no reply to a request for an expression of interest, so town staff went back to the developer of the original eight and that developer indicated an interest in 20 to 30 units, including the original eight.

McCabe adds Goderich clearly has a demonstrated need for more affordable housing units so the next step is up to the developer.

According to McCabe, "It really ties into other senior level of government and what they'll assist in also, so there are other programs that are available for affordable housing so, it's probably 20  to 30 units including the eight."
