Wellington North Considers Tax Change On Vacant Storefronts

Wellington North wants to encourage owners of vacant storefronts to fill them up.

In the past, owners of vacant commercial-industrial properties were eligible for a 30% tax reduction.

But Councillor Lisa Hern says the tax reduction only encourages the properties to remain vacant.

Council agrees that if property owners are not showing a real effort to rent out their commercial-industrial buildings, they can be denied the tax reduction.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
