Maitland Conservation Concerned About Ice Jam Near Auburn

A flood warning has been issued for low-lying areas close to the Patterson Bridge on Huron County Rd. 25 near Auburn due to an ice jam.

Maitland Conservation Flood and Erosion Services Coordinator Steven Jackson says although river levels have peaked since the rainfall several days ago, this crush of ice chunks significantly increased Wednesday and is now posing a danger downstream of the bridge.

Jackson noted flooding is occurring and will continue to do so until a portion of the ice comes free and floats downstream.

Stream banks are very unstable, and the cold water temperature is compounding the problem.

The flood warning for the Auburn area will remain in effect until at least Monday morning.
