Protect Yourself From Winter Sun

The Huron County Health Unit is advising people to protect themselves from the sun when they're outdoors in the winter.

Senior Health Promoter Angela Willert says people may not give much thought to protection from the sun in the winter, but it's a known fact that fresh snow reflects up to 88% of sun rays, so that you're getting almost double the UV exposure.

On a snowy day, the sun can be even stronger than it is in the summer. She recommends that people wear protective clothing if they're outside in the winter and that includes close-fitting, wrap-around sunglasses with a UV of 400, or 100% UV protection, wearing a hat, and using sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or more.
