The South West Local Health Integration Network is in the process of launching its new Health System Renewal Advisory Committee.
Huron-Perth Healthcare Alliance C-E-O is one of two Alliance representatives on the board. He says the primary mandate Huron-Perth Healthcare Alliance and other LHIN strategic priorities, to work with the regions, so the sub regions of the LHIN to act really as a sounding board and provide advice to the LHIN board on areas where we feel integration is going to benefit patients and families going into patients residence. Williams says part of that will be advancing the Provincial Patients First program that the Alliance hospitals have been working with for some time.
Williams says Patients First has resulted in some significant results by involving patients and family members in their committee infrastructure and ensuring that more and more decisions get made running through the filter of patients and people who have been in the system, who understand it, making sure that staff are given the opportunity to comment on what's going on in the work environment. Williams explains that does require shifting the culture to some degree, while still providing the highest quality care possible.
