Miners Laid Off At Goderich Mine

Forty-eight workers at the Goderich Mine, operated by Compass Minerals, have been laid off.

In a statement, the company said the restructuring is in keeping with the current collective bargaining agreement between the company and the union. The statement also adds that over the course of implementing continuous mining, the company has communicated to employees and the union of anticipated layoffs.

Compass Minerals has operated the site since 1990.

The layoffs happen at a time when the company is investing and relying more on technology.
