OPP Arrest Estranged Boyfriend With Hatchet In Flesherton

A Southgate man has been arrested after showing up at a former girlfriend's home with a hatchet.

Grey County OPP say the suspect allegedly sent threatening text messages to his estranged girlfriend, and then showed up at her home in Flesherton armed with the hatchet Tuesday morning at around 6:18am. However, he left before police arrived.

At around 8:33am the suspect, a 32-year old man from the Township of Southgate, was arrested in Flesherton without incident and taken to hospital for assessment. Police also recovered a hatchet.

There were no injuries reported.

There was a "hold and secure" put in place for Grey Highlands Secondary and Macphail Memorial Elementary in Flesherton, but it was lifted just after 9am. The Bluewater District School Board says all students and staff are safe.

An investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
