Sugar Kings One Win Away from Conf. Semi Finals

The Elmira Sugar Kings scored three times in the third period to beat Brampton 4-1 and take a decisive 3-0 lead in their GOJHL Midwestern Conference quarter final.

Brampton opened the scoring midway through the second and Jeremey Goodwin answered for the Sugar Kings on the power play with less than three minutes left in the middle frame.

Ethan Wiseman scored the go-ahead goal three-and-a-half minutes into the third. Mason McMahon added insurance three minutes later. Marcel Berube scored on the power play with two minutes left in the game.

Wiseman and Goodwin also had assists in the win.

Tyler Mazzocato made 25 saves. Josua Eisfeld took the loss also making 25 saves but facing three more shots.

The Sugar Kings can sweep the series on Wednesday when they host the Bombers in Game 4. Puck drops at 7 p.m.

Kitchener 2 Waterloo 1 (OT)

Jeff Schrattner struck twice including the game winner in overtime to lift the Kitchener Dutchmen over Waterloo 2-1. The Dutchmen now have a 2-1 lead over the Siskins in their GOJHL Midwestern Conference quarter final.

Schrattner opened the scoring at 1:03 of the second, assisted by Kole Scott and Sean Kawalec.

Sam Spaedt scored the equalizer for the Siskins with just 24 seconds left in regulation.

Kawalec and Carter Lennon set up Schattner's game winner midway through the extra frame.

Riley Daniels stopped 43 shots for the Dutchmen. Brett Miller made 37 saves for the Siskins.

Game 4 is tomorrow night at the Kinsmen Area. Puck drops at 7 p.m.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
