Wrong-Way Driver Nabbed in Tay Township

A 40-year-old Barrie woman is facing charges after driving the wrong way on Hwy 400.

Ontario Provincial Police's Southern Georgian Bay detachment says they received a call from a driver at about 2am Saturday, concerning a vehicle driving north in the southbound lanes of Hwy 400 near Horseshoe Valley Rd in Springwater Twp.

Officers were able to locate and stop the vehicle a short time later on the highway near Vasey Rd in Tay Township.

OPP Constable David Hobson says in a news release that officers soon realised they were dealing with an impaired driving investigation. The woman was taken back to the detachment and eventually arrested.

The woman is charged with dangerous driving, driving the wrong way, and driving while having care or control over 80mg. Her vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded for seven days. She also faces 90 days without a driver's licence.

The suspect, who is not identified, was released on her recognizance to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on April 12.
