Patriots Eliminated from Schmalz Cup Run

The Mount Forest Patriots Schmalz cup bid is over.

The Patriots lost 5-2 to Stayner in Game 5 of the PJHL North Conference Final, losing the series 4-1.

Klayton Hoelscher scored both of the Patriots goals including late in the first to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead heading into the second.

Kevin Boyd's short handed goal at 8:18 of the second put the Siskins on the board. Hoelscher put the Patriots ahead again with a power play goal just 20 seconds later.

Ben Hughes scored the first of his four goals for Stayner midway through the period and gave the Siskins a 3-2 lead with another goal in the final 65 seconds of the middle frame.

Hughes scored twice more, just 28 seconds apart in the third to pad the Siskins lead.

The Patriots made Marcus Semiao earn the win with 42 shots on the Siskins goal. David Lobsinger stopped 22 pucks for Mount Forest.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
