Bulldogs Memorial Cup Bound

The Hamilton Bulldogs are Memorial Cup bound. They withstood a late push by the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds to win the Roberston Cup in six games with a 5-4 victory.

Nicholas Caamano scored the game winner at 18:02 on an empty Greyhounds net. The Soo pulled netminder Matthew Villalta for a second time at 18:13 of the third and managed to score, putting them to within a point of Hamilton but they couldn't tie it up.

The Greyhounds led 1-0 after the first period thanks to Cole MacKay. Boris Katchouk scored early in the second to make it 2-0.

Brandon Saigeon scored unassisted just before the midway point of the middle frame to put the Bulldogs on the board and MacKenzie Entwistle tied it up at 17:37 of the second. Barrett Hayton would give the Soo the lead again before the period was over.

It was in the third that the Bulldogs took control, scoring three back-to-back goals starting with Riley Stillman at 8:28 and then Robert Thomas at 11:30.

The Hamilton Bulldogs will now head to Regina for the Mastercard Memorial Cup. They play Game 1 of round-robin action against the host Regina Pats at 8 p.m. Friday, May 18th.
