Student Injured After Car Passes Stopped School Bus

Owen Sound police have charged a motorist after a vehicle failed to stop for a school bus and a child was hurt.

Police say it happened about 8:35am, when a school bus travelling east on Alpha St. at 6th Ave. W stopped to pick up students.

The bus was stopped and all of the school bus crossing safety equipment was activated.

Police say a westbound sedan proceeded against the signals striking a 10-year-old child as she stepped off the curb. The child’s father was present and was able to quickly grab her.

The child was transported to the hospital by EMS with non-life threatening injuries.

A 16-year-old Georgian Bluffs resident was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with Failing to Stop for a School Bus.
