Bruce Power License Renewal Hearings In Kincardine This Week

Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission hearings on a ten-year license renewal for Bruce Power are taking place in Kincardine this week.

The hearings started today and will run through Thursday at the TownePlace Suites Marriott in Kincardine.

The hearings were extended from two to four days due to the number of interventions to be considered.

Senior Power Reactor Site Inspector Jeff Stevenson says the ten-year power reactor operating license application is the first of this length for Bruce Power but has become the norm in Canada.

Bruce Power wants to have it in place to continue with the planned life-extension program. That will include a Major Component Replacement Project starting in 2020.

Hearings were held in Ottawa in March.
