Family Thanks Grey County Paramedics

A family from the Hanover-area is crediting Grey County paramedics with saving their husband and father's life.

Last June, 88-year-old Donald Garland of Hanover suffered a heart attack at home. His wife Shirley called 911.

Paramedics rushed to the home and found the man with vital signs absent. They were able to restart his heart with a defibrillator and took him to Hanover hospital. He's now home and doing well.

Donald's son Tom was at the Second Chance Reunion Luncheon in Owen Sound, along with his family, to recognize paramedics for their efforts.

"It happened extremely fast and the services did a great job of turning things around. He wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for the help of the overall services team," says Tom Garland.

The paramedics involved were Sara Pickard and Dennis Mengotto who work out of the Hanover Grey County Paramedics' base.

Staff from the London Central Ambulance Communications Centre were also credited for their assistance.
