Huron County OPP Lay Charges In Million Dollar Fraud

A Huron-Kinloss woman is accused of defrauding a Bruce County resident out of $1.2-million.

Huron County OPP say they were contacted by a member of the victim's family in September of last year after they discovered the victim had lost a sizeable portion of her life savings.

Investigators spoke to the victim and learned the accused had regularly borrowed large sums of money, allegedly by lying and other "fraudulent means." Police also accuse the suspect of writing bad cheques to the victim.

They believe the woman lost $1.2-million.

Sixty-year-old Roswitha Wiggermann was arrested last Wednesday, June 6 and charged with fraud over $5,000, making and uttering forged documents and making a false statement in writing.

She's due in court July 16 in Goderich.

Police suspect there may be more victims and are asking anyone who wants to talk with an investigator to call the Huron OPP Crime Unit at 519-524-8314.
