Body Of Kayaker Pulled From Georgian Bay

A post-mortem is being conducted on a female kayaker whose body was found Friday.

The Ontario Provincial Police Southern Georgian Bay detachment's Marine Unit was called to Midland Bay Woods in Tay Township around 1:15pm on a report of an overturned kayak, and a female occupant who at the time was unaccounted for.

The OPP dispatched a helicopter to help with the search. The Canadian Forces Joint Rescue Coordination Centre also sent a search-and-rescue aircraft and a helicopter to the scene.

The body of the Tay Township woman was pulled from the water around 7:45pm, the OPP say.

The person is not being identified until the post-mortem is complete and family members have been notified.
