Wellington County Woman Charged After Putting Toddler In Trunk

Wellington County OPP laid charges after investigating reports that a woman put a toddler in the trunk of a car and drove off.

OPP attended the scene in Erin on Friday, June 22 at about 8:30pm, but the woman and child were gone. Later officers received a tip to identify the grandmother and granddaughter.

A 74-year-old woman from Erin has been charged with Failing to Ensure a Toddler is Properly Secured contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

Family and Children's Services was notified and are investigating.

The child was returned to her parents without injuries.

To protect the victim, the name of the charged individual will not be released

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
