Wellington North Welcomes Autonomous Vehicle Testing

Wellington North council likes the idea of the municipality being part of a province-wide corridor for the testing of self-driving vehicles.

Mayor Andy Lennox says self-driving vehicles can be particularly important in rural areas where public transportation is in great need.

Lennox adds the use of autonomous vehicles may pose some risk, but in the long-term, it offers immense rewards to the community at large.

The Ontario Good Roads Association has asked that Wellington North be part of a province-wide corridor for the testing of autonomous vehicles.

A staff report on the proposal is expected soon.
