Local Restaurant Owner Wins Award For Butter Tarts

A local restaurant owner has placed third at Ontario's Best Butter Tart Festival in Midland.

Vonnie Jasso of 'Just Like Mom's Restaurant', located on Hwy. 21 in Southampton, placed third in the Traditional Butter Tarts category, and fifth with her Pecan tarts.

Rachel Smith and Jean Parker of Food Network Canada, as well as Sharon Hampson of "Sharon, Lois & Bram" served as judges for the competition.

Jasso says the being in the competition has seen an increase in sales, including people travelling to her store just to buy some of her tarts, adding that butter tarts are a "very Canadian thing".
