Some Grey County Pitching Helps Canada Remain Undefeated at Softball Championship

Canada's Junior Men's Softball team got a Grey County boost and is in good shape at the World Softball Championship in Prince Albert, SK.

Canada beat New Zealand 8-5 but it was not easy.

Williamsford's Owen Torrie pitched two-and-two-thirds innings in relief, striking out three while allowing three walks. But he never gave up a run.

"It was pretty tough, they're good batters," said Torrie. "We've seen them (New Zealand) crush a ball, so just trying to keep it low, mix in the odd change and it worked well I thought."

Torrie says begin called upon to pitch was no surprise: "I knew at practice earlier in the day that I would be the second one in, if needed, so I was ready to go."

Canada's win puts them first place in Pool B at 4-0 with a game against Guatemala on Thursday.
