Registration For El Camino Hike Open

Registration is now open for the Maitland Trail Association El Camino Hike.

Secretary Erinn Lawrie explains the hike is an annual fund-raiser for the Association and is 49 km hike over two days along the Maitland Trail. She adds there are also shorter hikes for people who don't want to go the full 49 km.

Lawrie says the hike can attract as many as 200 hikers and it follows the Maitland River to the shores of Lake Huron in Goderich. The hike will be held on September 29 and 30 and hikers doing the 49 km hike will travel from Auburn to Beniller on Saturday and then Benmiller to the beach on Sunday.

Lawrie says the Lower Maitland River is a significant ecological area with many unique species that are rare both provincially and globally. Registration closes September 21st, or when the registration cap is reached. More information about the El Camina Hike can be found on the Maitland Trail website.
