Speed Reduction Proposed For Wellington North School Zones

Wellington North may expand speed reduction in school zones to the entire municipality.

The reduction from 80 km/h to 60 km/h for rural schools zones was initially proposed about a year ago as a safety measure in the area of a gravel pit.

But when Wellington North considered the change to policy Monday, it decided to ask for a new policy which would also reduce speed limits in urban areas from 50 km/h to 30 km/h.

Councillor Sherry Burke said she hopes the new speed limits can be in place in time for the start of school.
