Clinton Street South between James Street West and Marcy Street West after the crash blocked the roadway on Monday shortly before 4 p.m.
Police have not released any information about possible injuries in the crash.
SPS Board Chair Kelly Ash said the decision followed discussions with Acting Chief Mike Federico and aligns with practices at other police services.
