Chatsworth man accused of speeding, drinking and drug offences

Provincial police monitoring traffic in Wellington North clocked a vehicle moving over 130 kilometres per hour in an 80 km/h zone.

An OPP officer pulled over a motorist on Saturday at around 4 p.m. on Wellington Road 109 near Wellington Road 10, east of Teviotdale.

While speaking with the male driver, the officer detected the odour of fresh marijuana and an alcoholic beverage. The officer observed an open container of alcohol within reach of the driver. The driver was placed under arrest and a subsequent search of the vehicle yielded a large quantity of marihuana.

A 22-year-old Chatsworth man has been charged with racing a motor vehicle, possession of marijuana and driving a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor. His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.

He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on October 9, 2018, to answer to the charges.
