Wrong way roundabout and racing charges in Mapleton

A Kincardine man has a court date next month in Guelph on a racing charge.

Shortly before midnight Monday, an OPP officer was conducting radar at the new roundabout on Wellington Road 7 at Wellington Road 109 in Mapleton Township. The officer witnessed a sedan enter the roundabout and make a sharp left turn, against the flow of traffic.

As the vehicle approached the Wellington Road 7 exit, the vehicle made another sharp left turn, leaving the roundabout at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was locked on the OPP radar at a speed of 165 kilometres per hour in an 80 km/h zone.

A 72-year-old Kincardine man has been charged with racing a motor vehicle and driving the wrong way in one way traffic.

His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for seven days. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on October 17.
