A reported gas leak triggers evacuation in part of Listowel

A block of homes along Main St. in Listowel had to be evacuated late Monday afternoon because of a suspected gas leak.

The call came in just before 4 p.m. Police, fire and Union Gas responded to the call.

Main Street West between Mitchell Road and Hay Avenue South was temporarily closed while crews investigated. Once the leak was found, crews were able to fix the problem and people were allowed back into their homes shortly after 7 p.m.

No injuries were reported.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
