Welbeck Sawmill a victim of credit card fraud

A man from Ajax is facing charges after several fraudulent transactions at the Welbeck Sawmill near Durham.

Over the course of a few days, starting in late August, the accused successfully purchased over $24,000 worth of tools using a fraudulently obtained credit card.

West Grey police were able to establish that the stolen goods were in York Region. They partnered with the York Regional Police Service and an undercover officer who arranged a purchase of the stolen goods. Once confirming that these were the items stolen, police arrested the seller.

A 27-year-old man from Ajax was charged with one count of possession of stolen property over $5,000 and one count of possession of stolen property under $5,000.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on October 25.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
