EQAO test results promising within Avon Maitland school system

The superintendent of education for the Avon Maitland District School Board is pleased with the recent EQAO test results.

Jane Morris said they've seen a steady increase in many indicators and suggests the trend is more telling than the raw numbers.

"In 2017-2018, our junior assessment landed at 82 per cent of our students meeting or exceeding the provincial standard and junior writing has also increased by five percentage points over the previous year, with 79 per cent of our students either meeting or exceeding," she said.

Morris said while math scores are lower than the reading and writing scores, they are trending upwards.

"Primary mathematics has now risen to 64 per cent of students meeting or exceeding the provincial standard and in junior, we're at 49 per cent. In grade nine applied, we've made it up to 59 per cent and we're holding at 82 in academic."

Morris said all of those indicators are either at or above the provincial standard.
