Wiarton airport attracts new business

Georgian Bluffs is welcoming a new business to the Wiarton Keppel International Airport.

R&D Aviation is relocating from Guelph, bringing its aircraft maintenance and mechanical service to the community.

R&D is expected to attract business from a large area, which will increase the profile and traffic at the airport.

The township also expects the maintenance operation will help attract other aviation businesses to the airport.

Mayor Alan Barfoot said work continues with local business and tour operators to ensure the infrastructure and services will be available in the event scheduled passenger flights become a reality.

A survey conducted earlier this year indicated strong support for a scheduled passenger flight from Wiarton to Toronto.
