SIU mandate invoked in Huron East incident

Ontario's law-enforcement oversight agency is looking into an incident in Huron East.

Ontario Provincial Police say it happened Friday morning around 7:15. Huron County OPP officers responded to a call at a home in Brussels concerning a disturbance.

When police arrived at the scene, they noticed an intoxicated man on the property, having allegedly caused damage to the home. He was taken into custody without incident.

While in police custody, the man, identified by the OPP as Todd Regular, 38, of Palmerston, began complaining of an injury. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

The accused is charged with three counts of mischief and one count of assault. He was due for a court appearance late Saturday.

The OPP has notified the Special Investigations Unit which invoked its mandate. No further information has been provided.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
