REACH hosts Barrel Racing Grand Slam this weekend

The Ontario Barrel Racing Grand Slam finals get underway Friday evening at the REACH Centre in Clinton.

Central Huron resident Amy Fatheringham is competing.  She said the event has competitions in all age groups for both the barrel racing and the pole bending and they already have over 120 entries for Friday night.

Fatheringham said both events are timed, speed events.

"It's pretty much the first horse around a clover-leaf pattern wins. Pole Bending, once again, it's timed, you have six poles, say, 21 feet apart and your horse and rider run down to one end, weave through, weave back through and then run back to the timer," she said.

Fatheringham said for this weekend there's almost $15,000 in added money as well as a portion of the entry fees.

Admission is free for spectators, and the finals run through to Sunday. More information and a schedule of events can be found on the REACH website.
