New loading system planned at Goderich Elevators

Goderich Elevators is expanding its operation at the harbour.

Town CAO Larry McCabe says the project involves a new loading mechanism on a small piece of property that would be leased from the town.

"The property they would place it on is a small property, 26 feet by 26 feet, would be leased from the town," he said. "They've done the hydro, geological investigation and soil testing and it's appropriate for this loading mechanism. It would replace the three loading mechanism there and remove those."

The town has to open up the current lease with Goderich Elevators and include the property in a new agreement. That will be done as soon as possible.

"It would improve the efficiency of loading vessels as well as help to eliminate the dust that has been a concern in the past. I think it's a $6 million investment," said McCabe.
