Grey County roads workers await contract talks

Grey County is facing a possible labour disruption from its unionized roads workers.

Negotiators for CUPE Local 1530 and the County are scheduled to return to the bargaining table on Monday, with a mediator from the Ministry of Labour.

Local 1530 represents about 60 full-time and part-time or seasonal roads workers, who do everything from snow plowing, bridge maintenance, and road repair.

Union Local President Mike McNally stated in a news release on Thursday that they had every expectation of concluding an agreement soon, but the county elected to request a "no-board" report.

That has triggered the countdown to a lockout as early as next Thursday if no agreement is reached by then.
