Goderich applies to raise parking fines in North Harbour area

Illegal parking continues to be a problem in the North Harbour area of Goderich.

CAO Larry McCabe said there are limits to how long people can park in that area and those limits are being exceeded by some.

McCabe said the province has to set the fine and it's currently set at $100 if it's paid within seven days.  It goes up to $125 after that.

Goderich council has applied to the province to increase the fine to $200 and it would increase if it was not paid on time.

McCabe said they're not sure if the increased fine will be the deterrent they're hoping for, but it would be one step before council makes the decision to start towing vehicles if they decide to go that route.
