Owen Sound crime spree results in arrest

Owen Sound police have charged a 32-year-old man following a string of criminal offences that spanned 48 hours.

Police say the situation started when a man stole a bottle of whiskey from the LCBO on Monday. That was followed by a theft from a Circle K Store and a theft from the Owen Sound Beer Store.

Tuesday evening, police said the same man entered a downtown variety store and approached the cashier, pointed a BB gun and demanded that he be given all the money from their register and cigarettes.   He ran from the store, pursued by two citizens until one man was shot by a pellet in the thigh.

Police arrived on the scene and were able to make an arrest.

Ryan Carless, 32, of Owen Sound has been charged with: • Robbery using a firearm • Pointing a firearm • Assault with a weapon • Using a firearm during flight • Carrying a concealed weapon • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose • Possessing a firearm while prohibited • Five counts of breaching a lifetime firearms ban • Theft under $5,000 • Possession of property obtained by crime

The accused was in court Wednesday and was held in custody.
