An alarming number of motorists were caught stunt driving by going more than 50 km over the speed limit over the past year, according to Bruce Peninsula OPP.
Over the travelling season on Highway 6, OPP charged 130 drivers, between January 1 and now.
In 2017, OPP charged 43 drivers with the same offence on Highway 6.
There were no fatalities over the past year.
Safe Communities Bruce Peninsula set up to SpeedSpy data collection devices over 4 weekends, and it found that during those four periods over the summer, 354 stunt driving speeds were recorded.
"A significant amount of work was done over the summer but clearly there is more work to do. Those drivers that travel on Highway 6, at excessive and dangerous speeds, need to recognize that their actions directly negatively affect others also using the highway. Through our partnerships with community stakeholders, we resolve to keep Highway 6 safe. Ontario Provincial Police will continue to enforce the laws of the road, raise awareness for safe driving and remain committed to public safety," said Interim Staff Sergeant Paul Richardson.
