Per diem increase for Huron County councillors

Huron County councillors are getting a small pay raise.

The per diem increase is to offset the federal tax exemption on expenses that they are going to lose in January.

CAO Meighan Wark said Huron County is saving money by reducing the number of meetings each month from three to two.  That's making it easier for them to accommodate the increase in the per diem.

"As a result of the report that came forward the decision was made to increase the per diem for councillors so that it will amount to maintaining the status quo for them as a result of the tax exemption," said Wark.
