The Avon Maitland District School Board has been selected by the Ministry of Education to conduct an identity-based data collection project.
The board-wide student survey will be done the first week of December. Responses will give administrators a better understanding of diverse student populations, and the identification of barriers surrounding their success.
The project will also help to enhance the creation and distribution of existing and future school board programs and services.
The survey is voluntary and confidential, but not anonymous. All data will be collected and housed by the board in compliance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
It's being launched on December 3.
Kim Black, superintendent of education and learning services, said the ministry’s direction is "ensuring equity is a central goal of Ontario’s publicly funded education system. It stems from a fundamental principle that every student should have the opportunity to succeed personally and academically, regardless of background, identity or personal circumstances."
"This direction aligns with Avon Maitland’s commitment to create positive, inclusive learning environments and to maximize outcomes for our students," she said. "We are excited to have the opportunity to more deeply understand the identities of our students and their families."
