Owen Sound R.I.D.E. check finds confused elderly driver

Officers with the Owen Sound Police Service kicked off their Festive R.I.D.E. program Thursday and had one unusual driver on their hands.

Shortly after 9 p.m Thursday night, officers were checking drivers in the 600-block of 9th Avenue East when a lone elderly motorist came upon the R.I.D.E. stop.

The 78-year-old driver appeared confused and told police he was not aware that he was in Owen Sound.

Police were able to determine that the man had set out from his residence in Brampton to get gas, and ended up driving all the way to Owen Sound.

His son was located and notified, and expressed his surprise at his father's whereabouts.  The son was able to take his father back home Thursday night.
