Transit service affected by Owen Sound Santa Claus Parade

Owen Sound residents will face a disruption in transit service Saturday during the 73rd Consecutive Santa Claus Parade.

The Kiwanis parade that started back in 1945 will help transform the downtown into a festive celebration of the holidays.

The spectacle begins at 10 am near 11th Street East and 2nd Avenue East by the Metro Grocery store.

Transit service will be suspended from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The last bus leaving the terminal at 9:30 a.m. will be the East Bayshore route which will make a special stop at Heritage Place.

The parade travels south toward City Hall and turns east at the intersection of 8th Street East and 2nd Avenue East to end at 3rd Avenue East.

This year's theme is Winter sports.

The Brooke and Core bus routes will detour around the Festival of Northern Lights on 8th Street East and 1st Avenue East beginning at 2 pm until the end of transit service at 4 pm. Both routes will cross the Sydenham River at 9th Street rather than 8th Street.

Santa has a number of other stops around midwestern Ontario this weekend with parades taking place this at 11 a.m. in Bayfield, 6 p.m. in Exeter, 6:30 p.m. in  Goderich and 7 p.m. in Harriston.
