15-year-old driver caught at Clinton R.I.D.E. checkpoint

Two 15-year-old girls are in a bit of hot water after they were caught this past weekend taking the family car out for a spin in Clinton.

Shortly after midnight Sunday, OPP officers were conducting a R.I.D.E. check at the north end of Clinton when they spotted a vehicle perform a U-turn in an attempt to avoid the checkpoint.

An officer conducted a traffic stop, and quickly determined the driver and her passenger were only 15 years of age. Further questioning revealed the teen had taken the vehicle for a drive without parents' permission.

The joyride came to an end and a guardian attended the scene to retrieve the vehicle and the teens.

The 15-year-old driver has to complete a Youth Diversionary Program to avoid a charge.
