Police lay charges after forcible confinement

Owen Sound Police have laid charges after an incident on Saturday.

On Saturday, December 1st at 2 am, Owen Sound Police were called to an apartment on 3rd Avenue East. A caller had reported to police that a 25-year-old male was being held in the apartment against his will. Police located the male leaving the unit and he was unharmed. He had been lured to the apartment by a third party, and the suspect then demanded money from the victim, and brandished a wooden bat.

The suspect was located a short time later and arrested. He was already wanted for committing a previous assault on the same victim the previous day. The accused, Michael VanWyck, has been charged with attempted robbery, forcible confinement, having a weapon for a dangerous purpose and two counts of failing to comply with a pre-existing probation order. He was held for a bail hearing.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
